13 Level-2-EB Estimate Bankfull Report
🟡 Intermediate ☑️ Evaluate
QA Checklist
This chapter describes the items an analyst needs to check to ensure that the FluvialGeomorph tools have run correctly to produce clean reports. In addition to following the guidance in the previous chapters when preparing the data and running each tool, this chapter will provide a checklist of items you’ll need to verify after each report completes. Reports are the place where all your hard work comes together! Your work is not complete just because the tools run without any errors. A lot of datasets must work together to make these reports come out cleanly. Because these reports integrate so many individual datasets, many issues aren’t discovered until you run the reports.
Bankfull Elevation Sensitivity Analysis
This report section contains the Bankfull Elevation sensitivity analysis Goodness of Fit graph and the Regional Hydraulic Geometry Curves graph drawn using the base year’s riffle cross section points fc.
Correct regions included
Region correction is a critical step in the Bankfull Elevation Sensitivity Analysis. The regions included in the analysis must be appropriate for the study area. Ensure that the regions used in the analysis are relevant and representative of the stream’s characteristics.
Adequate range of bankfull elevations
Evaluate the range of bankfull elevations used in the sensitivity analysis. The range should be sufficient to capture the variability in bankfull conditions across the study area. If the range is too narrow, it may not provide a comprehensive understanding of the stream’s behavior.
REMed bankfull elevation set to a reasonable value
Reasonable REMing of bankfull elevation is essential for accurate analysis. Check that the REMed bankfull elevation values are set appropriately, reflecting the natural variability of the stream’s morphology.
Drainage Area values are reasonable
Values for drainage area should be consistent with the physical characteristics of the watershed. Ensure that the drainage area values used in the analysis are reasonable and align with the expected hydrological conditions of the study area.
Longitudinal Profile
This section of the report contains a cross section longitudinal profile graph drawn using the riffle cross section dimensions, 🗺️ riffle_channel_dims_L2 feature class.
Elevation values are reasonable
Elevations displayed in the longitudinal profile should be within expected ranges based on the topography and hydrology of the study area. Verify that the elevation values are consistent with known benchmarks or reference points.
Stationing in the correct units
Station units should be consistent throughout the analysis. Ensure that the stationing is presented in the correct units (e.g., feet or meters) and that it aligns with the project’s specifications.
Stream feature labels display correctly
Labels for stream features should be accurate and clearly visible on the longitudinal profile. Check that all labels are correctly placed and correspond to the appropriate features in the study area.
Cross Section Metrics
This report section contains a Level 2 cross section metrics plot drawn using the 🗺️ riffle_channel_dims_L2 feature class.
Width-Depth Ratio values are reasonable
Values for the width-depth ratio should fall within expected ranges based on the stream’s morphology. Verify that the calculated ratios are consistent with known characteristics of similar streams.
Entrenchment Ratio values are reasonable
Entrenchment ratio values should reflect the degree of channel confinement. Ensure that the values are reasonable and indicative of the stream’s geomorphic condition.
Slope values are reasonable
Slope values should be consistent with the stream’s gradient and topography. Check that the calculated slopes are within expected ranges for the study area.
Sinuosity values are reasonable
Values for sinuosity should accurately represent the meandering nature of the stream. Ensure that the calculated sinuosity values are reasonable and align with the observed channel pattern.
Shear Stress values are reasonable
Shear stress values should be evaluated to ensure they are within expected ranges for the stream’s flow conditions. Verify that the calculated shear stress values are reasonable and reflect the hydraulic characteristics of the channel.
Unit Stream Power values are reasonable
Stream power values should be assessed to ensure they are consistent with the stream’s energy and flow dynamics. Check that the calculated unit stream power values are reasonable and align with the expected hydraulic behavior of the channel.
Cross Section Profiles
This report section contains a cross section map and a cross section profile graph for each cross section in the reach. The map is drawn from the cross section dimensions fc 🗺️ riffle_channel_dims_L2 and the 🗺️ dem_hydro raster. The cross section profile graph is drawn using the 🗺️ riffle_channel_points feature class’s for each survey. see the QA checklist items in the Level 1 Report, Cross Section Profiles section.
Level 2 Report
Study Area Overview
This report section contains a set of reach overview maps drawn using the 🗺️ flowline and the regularly spaced cross section dimensions, 🗺️ *_dims_L2, feature classes (fc). Both the aerial photo and elevation are provided by Mapbox Raster Tiles. See the QA checklist items in the Level 1 Report, Study Area Overview section.
Longitudinal Profile
This section of the report contains a cross section longitudinal profile graph drawn using the regularly spaced cross section dimensions, *_dims_L2 fc. See the QA checklist items in the Estimate Bankfull, Longitudinal Profile section.
Cross Section Metrics
This report section contains a Level 2 cross section metrics plot drawn using the regularly spaced cross section dimensions, 🗺️ *_dims_L2 feature class. See the QA checklist items in the Estimate Bankfull, Cross section Metrics section.
Ensure metrics values are smooth
Metric values should exhibit smooth transitions along the stream reach. Check that the calculated metrics do not show abrupt changes or inconsistencies that could indicate errors in data processing or analysis.
Cross Section Profiles
This report section contains a cross section map and a cross section profile graph for each cross section in the reach. The map is drawn from the regularly spaced cross section dimensions feature class 🗺️ *_dims_L2 and the 🗺️ dem_hydro raster. The cross section profile graph is drawn using the cross section 🗺️ *_points feature class’s for each survey. see the QA checklist items in the Level 1 Report, Cross Section Profiles section.
